Leverage Media is a virtual team of freelance art directors, editors, writers, production professionals, and database specialists. Among those editors, writers, and art directors who frequently work on Leverage Media projects are the following:
MICHAEL WINKLEMAN
President and Chief Creative Officer
Michael Winkleman is a magazine packager and a long-time business editor and journalist. Over the past 12 years, he has developed a specialty in business-to-business custom publishing, leading custom publishing efforts at American Lawyer Media and Chief Executive magazine, running the Business Magazines Division at Faulkner & Gray and Special Reports at Adweek, and developing custom publications for law firms, management consulting firms, and technology companies. Currently he is president and chief creative officer of Leverage Media, a four-year-old virtual enterprise dedicated to “thought leadership marketing." An active member of the Custom Publishing Council, he was recently elected the organization's VP/Marketing and has developed and run The Pearl, the CPC's annual award show.
ANDREA OLSTEIN
Chief Operating Officer
From a long, successful career in real estate development and finance, Andrea Olstein brings her extensive business management experience to ensure that Leverage Media’s growth and quality objectives are met. As chief operating officer, Olstein oversees Leverage Media's business strategy, short- and long-term planning, new business development, financial and budget management, and marketing. A seasoned and skilled project planner—and a licensed real estate broker—Olstein has played a key role in virtually every phase of real estate development and has successfully managed projects, properties, and loans with values totaling over $450 million. Her professional affiliations include the Urban Land Institute and Women in Housing and Finance, and she is an honorary member of the Lamda Alpha Land Economic Society.
EDITORS AND WRITERS
Peter Haapaniemi
A longtime business journalist and editor with a proven expertise in targeting top-level decision makers, Peter Haapaniemi and Mike Winkleman have collaborated on projects since 1994, when they produced a technology supplement for Chief Executive magazine sponsored by Unisys. A former editor at TPC, a Detroit-based custom publishing company, Haapaniemi has specialized in reader-driven sponsored supplements focused on business, technology, social trends, and the law for such companies as Oracle, Unisys, Accenture, and SAP.
Jeff Heilman
A journalist and business development executive with 18 years experience in law, media, information technology, and advertising, Jeff Heilman has written frequently about client management issues, conference planning, and travel. Heilman has been director of business development at ActiveMap, a New York software company, and earlier, vice president of North American sales and marketing for Syntecor, Ltd., a software firm that designed web-based technologies for the sports and leisure industries. In addition to two as-yet unpublished novels, he has written extensively on military history, chronicling, in particular, the life stories of military veterans.
Richard Sine
An award-winning newspaper reporter, Rick has covered business for The Washington Post and Institutional Investor, urban and suburban issues for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The New Orleans Times Picayune, and filed stories for a wide range of U.S. publications on such topics as elections, labor, education, and the environment from Cambodia, where he served as an associate editor for The Cambodia Daily and taught communications at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. As the first Hitachi Fellow on Corporate Citizenship at the University of Maryland, he earned a Masters in Journalism, while taking numerous courses in the Robert H. Smith School of Business. His writing for Leverage Media has included pieces on international relations, health care, government, disaster planning, and competitive intelligence.
ART DIRECTORS
Carole Erger-Fass
Carole Erger-Fass’s style is simultaneously accessible, efficient, and elegant. In addition to her work with Leverage Media—including publications for Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, Convergys, Spherion, and Adjoined, as well as a book celebrating the 150th anniversary of the law firm of Winston & Strawn—Erger-Fass is the art director of NAFE magazine and designs a wide range of publications for the New York Philharmonic (including CDs and the book Kurt Masur at the New York Philharmonic, published by Random House). Previously she was executive art director at Adweek (where she and Mike Winkleman produced up to 47 special reports a year) and at Mecklermedia.
James Van Fleteren
Jim Van Fleteren and Mike Winkleman have collaborated on a number of projects over the last several years, including: L, a lifestyle/workstyle magazine for law students; PowerTalk, a publication about lobbying sponsored by Patton Boggs; and The Chief Executive’s Guide to the War for Talent, sponsored by Deloitte & Touche. Currently Jim, who was formerly the art director of Bicycling magazine, is also art director of Hewitt magazine, which showcases Hewitt Corporation’s leadership in human resources.
PRODUCTION MANAGER
Rosemary P. Sullivan
Rose Sullivan’s long history in magazine production has included stints running all aspects of manufacturing for a wide range of business, financial, legal, lifestyle, and women’s service magazines—both as a staff member and as a consultant. Having been elected the first female president of the Association of Publication Production Managers in 1986, she has since served on that organization’s board of directors and was voted Production Person of the Year in 1994. She has handled all print contract negotiation, press checks, production trafficking, pre-press, and vendor selection for Leverage Media since the company’s founding in 2001.
CHARTIST
Steven Stankiewicz
Trained as a fine artist, Steve Stankiewicz has, over the last 15 years, developed a specialty in infographics, both illustrated and more conventional, for business-to-business and consumer publications. His charts and other graphics have been published—in both print and online versions—in a wide range of publications, including Forecast, Chief Executive, and Chief Legal Executive.
